Mutually exclusive nuances of truth
نویسنده
چکیده
Nuances of truth represent a robust paradigm in the framework of many-valued logics [1]. The idea of nuancing states that a many-valued object is uniquely determined by some Boolean objects, its nuances, and it is called the determination principle. However, a many-valued object cannot be recovered only from its Boolean nuances. This idea goes back to Gr. C. Moisil [4] and it is mathematically expressed by a categorical adjunction between Boolean algebras and Lukasiewicz-Moisil algebras. Moisil’s determination principle cannot be extended for subalgebras: distinct LukasiewiczMoisil algebras can have the same Boolean algebra reduct.

Mutually Exclusive Nuances of Truth in Moisil Logic
Moisil logic, having as algebraic counterpart Lukasiewicz-Moisil algebras, provides an alternative way to reason about vague information based on the following principle: a many-valued event is characterized by a family of Boolean events. However, using the original definition of Lukasiewicz-Moisil algebra, the principle does not apply for subalgebras. In this paper we identify an alternative a...
متن کاملDesigning redox potential-controlled protein switches based on mutually exclusive proteins.
Synthetic/artificial protein switches provide an efficient means of controlling protein functions using chemical signals and stimuli. Mutually exclusive proteins, in which only the host or guest domain can remain folded at a given time owing to conformational strain, have been used to engineer novel protein switches that can switch enzymatic functions on and off in response to ligand binding. T...
متن کاملTernary Exclusive Or
Ternary exclusive or is the (two valued) truth function that is true just in case exactly one of its three arguments is true. This is an interesting truth function, not definable in terms of the binary exclusive or alone, although the binary case is definable in terms of the ternary case. This article investigates the types of truth functions that can be defined by ternary exclusive or, and rel...
متن کاملCompeting RNA secondary structures are required for mutually exclusive splicing of the Dscam exon 6 cluster.
Alternative splicing of eukaryotic pre-mRNAs is an important mechanism for generating proteome diversity and regulating gene expression. The Drosophila melanogaster Down Syndrome Cell Adhesion Molecule (Dscam) gene is an extreme example of mutually exclusive splicing. Dscam contains 95 alternatively spliced exons that potentially encode 38,016 distinct mRNA and protein isoforms. We previously i...
متن کاملThe landscape of human mutually exclusive splicing
Mutually exclusive splicing of exons is a mechanism of functional gene and protein diversification with pivotal roles in organismal development and diseases such as Timothy syndrome, cardiomyopathy and cancer in humans. In order to obtain a first genomewide estimate of the extent and biological role of mutually exclusive splicing in humans, we predicted and subsequently validated mutually exclu...
